Why does a man dress as a bride in this Himalayan festival ? 🫨
This is the mysterious Raulane Festival celebrated in Kalpa in the mountains of Kinnaur.
Locals believe mystical mountain spirits called Saunis visit the village to bless the land and protect its people. To honour them, two men represent a divine couple known as Raula and Raulane.
One dresses as a bride in traditional Kinnauri attire and jewellery while the village gathers with music, rituals and prayers.
In the Himalayas, culture isn’t preserved in museums.
It is still lived. 🫶🏻
