Montenegro Itinerary (4 Nights / 5 Days)Getting ThereIf you’re road-tripping through the Balkans, Montenegro is an easy next stop from Croatia. I crossed the border by rental car, which made exploring much easier. Just remember to bring your passport, as you’ll be crossing into a different country.Day 1: Arrive in BudvaStay: Hotel Montenegro Beach Resort (All-Inclusive)After arriving in Budva, check into your hotel and spend the day unwinding after the drive.Things to do:Enjoy lunch at the all-inclusive resort.Relax by the pool.Walk directly onto Becici Beach from the hotel.Swim in the Adriatic Sea.Walk the seaside promenade connecting Bečići and Budva.Enjoy dinner and drinks back at the resort.Watch the sunset from the beach.Day 2: Kotor & Perast Day TripDrive about 40 minutes to Kotor.Morning: KotorKotor is one of Montenegro’s most famous destinations and is surrounded by dramatic mountains and the Bay of Kotor.Things to do:Wander through Kotor Old Town.Visit St. Tryphon’s Cathedral.Explore the maze of medieval streets.Find the famous cats that live throughout the Old Town.Browse local shops and cafés.Hike the 1,350+ steps to Kotor Fortress (San Giovanni Fortress) for panoramic views.Ride the Kotor Cable Car for views over the Bay of Kotor.Take a boat tour to the Blue Cave.Visit Our Lady of the Rocks by boat.Go kayaking or paddleboarding in the bay.I visited during shoulder season, so the Blue Cave tours and some water activities weren’t operating yet. If you’re visiting during the warmer months, they’re definitely worth adding.Afternoon: PerastOn your way back, stop in Perast.Things to do:Walk along the waterfront promenade.Visit Our Lady of the Rocks.Take a short boat ride.Enjoy a waterfront café.Admire the historic Venetian architecture.Watch the sunset over the bay before heading back to Budva.Return to your resort for dinner.Day 3: Explore Budva & Sveti StefanStart the day with breakfast at the resort before heading into Budva Old Town.BudvaThings to do:Explore Budva Old Town.Walk along the medieval city walls.Visit the Citadel.Wander through narrow stone streets.Browse boutiques and souvenir shops.Grab coffee in one of the plazas.Walk Budva Marina.Relax on Mogren Beach.Walk the coastal path to Mogren Beach.Enjoy seafood along the waterfront.Head back to the resort for lunch.Sveti StefanDrive about 15 minutes south.Things to do:Stop at the iconic viewpoint overlooking the island.Walk the coastal path above Sveti Stefan.Relax at nearby beaches.Take photos at sunset.Return to the resort for your final all-inclusive dinner.Day 4: Relax or Explore More of the Budva RivieraEnjoy a slower day and take advantage of the resort.Ideas:Sleep in.Enjoy breakfast by the beach.Spend the morning at the pool.Relax on Bečići Beach.Get a massage or spa treatment (if available at your resort).Walk the waterfront promenade again.Visit nearby Rafailovići for lunch or a coffee.Enjoy one last sunset over the Adriatic.Finish with dinner back at the resort.Day 5: DepartureEnjoy one last breakfast before checking out.If you’re continuing your Balkan road trip, it’s an easy drive back toward Croatia or south into Albania.Why Stay in Budva?Budva makes a great home base because you’re within an hour of Kotor, Perast, and Sveti Stefan, while still having beaches, great restaurants, nightlife, and an all-inclusive resort to return to every evening.
